Tonight, as I was washing Matthew's hands and face in the kitchen, we heard a yell and several uncomplimentary remarks from Alex hurled at David, who began to laugh and then to tease in loud tones. "That David," I said. "What are we going to do with him? "Matthew's quick response was, "Put him...in...garbage." (Isn't that where we put things we don't like?)

Levi, who was listening to our conversation, and who is usually the object of his older brother's teasing, laughed quite heartily. A little later, Matthew put on a pair of green, plastic glasses with round frames. I told him that he looked like an owl. "Yes," he replied. "Me owl." Then there was a pause before this addition... "Me ganpa owl." "Oh," I chuckled. "Do grandpas wear glasses?"

With a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eyes, he responded, "Yes....me ganpa owl."
